Otkritie CEO says hackers may turn eye to banks from clients

MOSCOW, Jun 28 (PRIME) -- Cybercrime becomes a more serious challenge for the financial system, and fraudsters would probably switch to massive attacks on banks from targeted attempts to steal clients’ money, Russia’s Otkritie Financial Corporation (FC) Bank head Mikhail Zadornov said on Monday at the International Financial Congress.

“The challenge that will become more and more urgent is cybercrime -- over the last two months we saw, in essence, suspension of the largest pipeline, product pipeline on the eastern coast of the U.S., the healthcare system has been out of order for almost a month in Ireland,” Zadornov said.

Banks are traditionally better protected against such threats. “But I would not rule out that there will be targeted attempts not to steal clients’ money, but massive attacks on banks,” he said.
